Saturday last (January 30th) saw the start of the 2010 season for the U-12 football panel. Team 1 played Ballinteer St. Johns while team 2 were down to play Round Towers Clondalkin at home in Pairc Ui Bhriain. Unfortunately for team 2, Round Towers were unable to field a team. Despite the disappointment of not having a competitive game, the panel had a very useful work-out under the watchful eyes of Paul Murphy and Fiachra O’Ceallaigh. Next week, this team are away where they play Kilmacud Crokes.
Team 1 made the trip to Marlay Park where Ballinteer St. Johns provided the opposition. This panel has been back training for the past 2 weeks so were hopeful that they could start the season with a win. Regrettably, John’s had a different idea and they stormed into an early lead and we were always playing catch-up from there on in. Despite the onslaught, our backs put up a commendable fight with Ben Thornton, Tom McGuirk, Jamie Deiseach, Jordan O’Connor and Rory Gallagher doing their utmost to stem the blitz. Fiachra O’Sullivan, Glenn Soraghan, Tom Keane and Eoin Foley all managed to register some scores but it just wasn’t enough to catch up with free scoring play of Johns. Sean McDaid put in an unbelievable performance with excellent fielding, blocking and driving runs from defence and was the worthy winner of Man of the Match. Well done Sean. Sean has really set the standard that the rest of the panel need to attain for the rest of the season. Thanks to St. Johns for a sporting game and we look forward to welcoming them back to Pairc Ui Bhriain on February 20th. Well done also to referee Naoise Maguire of Ballyboden St Enda’s who handled the game admirably. Next week this team are at home when they play Lucan Sarsfields. The panel that travelled to Marlay Park was: Conor Kirwan, Sean McDaid, Tom McGuirk, Jamie Deiseach, Jordan O’Connor, Rory Gallagher, Eoin Foley, Tom Keane, Glenn Soraghan, Fiachra O’Sullivan, Jack Dalton, Conor Brady, Cian DeBurca, Ben Thornton and Declan Murphy.
