U12 Footballers - February 20 2010 Print E-mail
Written by Ger Kirwan

On Saturday February 20th, a depleted U-12 team 1 played Ballinteer St. John’s in round 4 of the Cup competition in Pairc Ui Bhriain. With some of the panel on holidays due to the mid-term break, we were glad to be able to call on the services of Oscar Bent, Evan Cahill, Rhys Hennessy and Jake FitzGerald from the U-11 panel to help us fielded a team.  These 4 lads turned in excellent performances and Rhys also scored a splendid goal. Many thanks to the lads for playing, to their parents for agreeing to let them play for us and thanks also to the U-11 mentors for making the lads available to us.

Unfortunately, the passion and fighting spirit that the lads showed in the second half of last week’s game against Ballyboden couldn’t be repeated on the day.  Conor Kirwan (man of the match), Tom McGurk and Glenn Soraghan all gave excellent displays but overall the team struggled to come to terms with the strength of Ballinteer.  John’s were first to most of the balls and overall were worthy winners on the day.

Football takes a break next week when the first round of the hurling cup commences. We have 2 games left in the cup competition and the next game is on March 6th when we travel to play Lucan.  The team will be looking to use the intervening period to build on the performances in the opening games and get ready for the league campaign.

The panel on duty on Saturday was: Jordan O’Connor, Conor Brady (0-1), Tom McGurk, Oscar Bent, Conor Kirwan, Jack Dalton, Sean McDaid, Jamie Deiseach, Tom Keane (1-1), Glenn Soraghan (1-0), Evan Cahill, Fiachra O’Sullivan, Rhys Hennessy (1-0), Jake FitzGerald.
