U11 Girls Football Div 2
Our U11 girls played their first competitive match of the year against a very decent Cuala team in Meadowvale Park on Saturday 6 March 2010. Naomh Olafs called up two girls from the U10s panel to supplement a deplenished older panel and were up against it from the start. Emma McGuirk pulled off some lovely saves for Olafs early on in the game but a very skillful Cuala attack picked off excellent scores in quick succession and led by 3-05 to 0-0 at half time. Some positional moves at the break changed the dynamic of the game with our girls winning most of the 50/50 balls. Sarah Smyth moved out to midfield from her usual full back position teamed up with Olafs own pocket rocket Ciara Donnelly and took control of the midfield battle to such an extent that Cualas top players were brought back to shore up their defence. A close in point form Sarah, followed by two beauties from her left footed sister Emma and an opportunistic goal from Rachel O'Crowley put Olafs on the scoreboard. A much more even second half was a better reflection of the overall game and although well beaten on the day our U11 girls should have no fear when playing the rest of the games this year.
