AIB Cup          Sunday 7th March         St Margaret’s

St Margaret’s 0 - 10     Naomh Olaf 1 - 10

Olaf’s made a bright start but had only two points from play from Kevin Birrane and Gary Wilkins to show for an early period of dominance.  St Margaret’s levelled the scores with a free and a point from play.  Shane Whyte and Brian Begley both pointed and Margaret’s scored two more frees to leave the sides at 0 – 4 each.  In spite of much pressure Olaf’s ended the half behind by four points on a score line of

 0 – 8 to 0 – 4.

A pointed free from Simon Hickey and a nice point from play from Shane Whyte opened the second half.

Eoin Kinsella and John McGrath were introduced in place of Simon Hickey and Niall McCaffrey.

St Margaret’s pressed hard for scores and added two points in quick succession but Olaf’s responded with two fine points from David Burke and Brian Begley.  Bernard Gaughran was replaced by Simon Hickey and Eoin Christian dropped back into defence.

Following intense pressure Olaf’s won a penalty which was neatly dispatched to the net by Eoin Kinsella to take the lead by a point, 1 – 8 to 0 – 10.  Playing deep into stoppage time Cormac Lucey added a point and Brian Begley pointed a free kick to end the game and give Naomh Olaf three wins in the Cup.
