U13 Girls Football Div 1
Our U13 girl footballers got off to a winning start to their league Division 1 campaign with a fine away win over Castleknock in a bitterly cold Porterstown on Sunday 7 March 2010. Despite the setback of conceding an early goal Naomh Olaf soon took control of the game and led by 2-01 to1-0 at halftime with goals from Chloe O'Ceallaigh and Kate Murray who was also unlucky to also see a penalty shave the upright to go wide.
A strong performance by the full back line of Róisín, Sadhbh & Éilis was the foundation of an excellent overall team performance in the second half. A goal from Hayleigh Gunning and a powerful point from Giordain Brewer who had moved to half forward pretty much tied up the game for Olafs. To overcome the effects of the cold a number of positional and personnel changes were made unsettling the team structure in the process. As a result Castleknock scored 1-01 in the dying minutes of the game to bring the teams a little closer at the final whistle. Nonetheless our girls were well worthy of their win and it has given them a nice start to a very competitive league Division 1.
