The U12 team 1 travelled to Ballycullen to play table toppers Ballyboden St. Enda's in their last game in the cup competition on March 20th. Like the wedding at Cana, where the best wine was left until last, this team certainly left their best football of the year until their last game in the Cup competition when they nearly caused a major upset by going down to 'Boden by just 4 points.
This was a marvellous all round display from the whole team who gave their all. Goalkeeper Jordan O'Connor was the worthy winner of the "Man of the Match" award (this is the second time that Jordan has won this accolade in the Cup competition). He made numerous saves at throughout the game, he kept reminding the backs to mark up and his kick out's always found an Olaf player. The backs of Conor Kirwan, Tom McGurk, Jack Dalton, Eoin Foley (who scored 2 points from centre half back) and Rory Gallagher really upped their performance on the day and gave nothing away to the nippy 'Boden forwards. In midfield Sean McDaid, who scored a superb goal towards the end of the game, and Jamie Deiseach battled hard for every ball and let the 'Boden players know they had a battle on their hands.
The forwards of Fiachra O'Sullivan, Tom Keane (2 points), Glenn Soraghan (2 points), Cian DeBurca and Conor Brady (1 point) posed a constant threat to the 'Boden backs throughout the game. In the end they came up short by 4 points on a final score line of Ballyboden St. Enda's 2-8 Naomh Olaf 1-7. Congrats and best wishes to 'Boden in the semi-final.
The panel on Saturday was: Jordan O'Connor, Conor Kirwan, Tom McGurk, Jack Dalton, Eoin Foley, Rory Gallagher, Sean McDaid, Jamie Deiseach, Fiachra O'Sullivan, Tom Keane, Glenn Soraghan, Cian DeBurca, Conor Brady and Stephanie Deiseach.
Following the CCC1 meeting, this team will now play in Division 2 of the league where they'll be playing against Templeogue, Round Towers, Kilmacud Crokes, St. James Gaels, St. Annes and Cuala. Not an easy group by any stretch of the imagination but we look forward to the first game in the league which takes place on Saturday April 10th.
