28th April Senior Hurling Championship
Round Towers (C ) 0 – 10 Naomh Olaf 1 – 15
Donal MacMathuna began the Championship campaign with a nice point from play and Towers responded immediately. Naomh Olaf went ahead with a pointed free from Donal MacMathuna and a point from play by Declan O’Dwyer. Round Towers added two points but Martin Devlin scored from play, Donal MacMathuna from a free and Declan O’Dwyer from play to put Naomh Olaf ahead by three points. Round Towers scored a point from play but two pointed frees from Donal MacMathuna and a point from play from Michael O’Connor saw Naomh Olaf lead at half-time by 0 – 9 to 0 – 4.
Round Towers pointed two frees at the beginning of the second half and Naomh Olaf responded with a Donal MacMathuna free and a point from play by John McGrath. Towers converted another free to bring their score to seven with Olaf’s leading by four points. A fine catch and pass by Declan O’Dwyer was finished in style to the net by Michael O’Connor. Points were added by Robert Quinn and Michael O’Connor and another free by Donal MacMathuna to widen the gap between the teams. Robert Quinn scored Naomh Olaf’s final point of the match and Round Towers scored twice from play and converted a free but Naomh Olaf were deserving winners on a score line of
1 – 15 to 0 – 10.
