U12 Hurlers - May 29 2010 Print E-mail
Written by Ger Kirwan

Having lost out in the Cup semi-final to St. Kevin’s (who went on to win the final), the U12 hurling team 2 commenced the league with optimism when they took on Fingalians on Saturday May 29th 2010.  Fingalians first team were in the division 1 cup final so we knew we’d be up against it when playing their second team... and up against it we certainly were.

Fingalians started the game like a whirlwind and were 2 goals up within the first 10 minutes.  Our lads composed themselves and started to hurl as we know they can and got back into the game.  It was end to end stuff for the remainder of the first half.  Fingalians got a goal right before half time to leave them 3 goals in front at the break.

Olaf’s started the second half at a blistering pace and Eric Stapleton scored a goal with the first attack of the half.  This was quickly followed by a wonderful goal from Declan Murphy who pounced on a rebound from the Fingalians keeper. Game on!!  Olaf’s kept the pressure on but some marvellous defending from Fingalians prevented us from getting that critical third goal.

Olaf’s were camped in the Fingalians half for most of the second half.  Unfortunately for us, the 3 times that Fingalians entered the Olaf’s half of the pitch, they scored.

In the end we lost out by 4-2 to 2-0.  The next game sees the team travel to play Castleknock.

The panel was: Fiachra O’Sullivan, Ryan Murphy, Conor Kirwan, Cian DeBurca, Matthew Deering, Cian Coughlan, Conor Brady, Chloe O’Ceallaigh, Neil O’Mahony, Eric Stapleton (1-0), Tristin Kennedy, Matthew O’Ceallaigh, Declan Murphy (1-0), Daniel Stapleton, Jack Dalton.
