7th September - Intermediate Football Championship Naomh Olaf 3 – 11 Naomh Fionnbarra 1 – 16 aet The eight supporters who travelled to St Margaret’s were treated to a tight tense thriller under lights as Olaf’s progressed to the next round of the Championship. Naomh Fionnbarra led by 1 – 2 to 0 – 1 after ten minutes but Olaf’s came back with some nice points and then finished the half with two cracking goals from Eoin Kinsella and Shane Whyte. Half-time score Naomh Olaf 2 – 5 Naomh Fionnbarra 1 – 5 A shaky third quarter by Olaf’s allowed Naomh Fionnbarra to haul back the lead and Olaf’s had to battle hard to stay in the game. An excellent free by Eoin Kinsella on the stroke of full time levelled the game and set up extra time. Full- time score Naomh Olaf 2 – 8 Naomh Fionnbarra 1 – 11 In the first nail-biting period of extra time Olaf’s scored three points to Naomh Fionnbarra’s four and both teams were tiring. In the second period a long range speculative free from Shane Whyte dropped into the goal keeper’s hands but slipped through his fingers to the back of the net. Naomh Fionnbarra scored one more point but Olaf’s held on for a one point victory and passage to the next round .
