Naomh Barrog 1 – 13 Naomh Olaf 0 – 12
Once again the Naomh Olaf footballers and their supporters trekked across the city to play Championship football – this time to Fingal Ravens almost on the Meath border.
Naomh Barrog made the most of a strong wind behind them to lead at half time by 0 – 9 to 0 – 5.
All of Olafs scores came from the boot of Eoin Kinsella, the opening point from play and then four from frees.
A bright start to the second half saw Olafs pull back three points, one each from play by Shane Whyte and Simon Hickey and a free from Eoin Kinsella. Naomh Barrog increased their lead with a swift point and goal and there were twenty minutes left to play. A point from Shane Whyte and another free from Eoin Kinsella kept Olafs in touch and the game was in the balance.
The major turning point came when the referee failed to award a penalty as Eoin Kinsella in possession was dragged down in the small rectangle. Try as they might Olafs failed to close the gap between the teams and lost by 1 – 13 to 0 – 12.
