In a rain-sodden Marlay Park Ballinteer St John’s got off to a flying start to lead by 1 – 4 to no score after twenty minutes. Naomh Olaf settled to the task in hand and a “65” from Donal MacMathuna, a pointed free from Colin Kyne Delaney and two points from play by Ray Quinn and John McGrath brought the half time score to 0 – 4 to 1 – 7. Naomh Olaf started the second half well with a point from Michael O’Connor and another “65” from Donal MacMathuna but a controversial decision to disallow a Naomh Olaf goal was a turning point. Ballinteer St John’s built well on their lead and finished strongly to win by 1 – 13 to 0 – 7.
