7th November 2010 Senior Football League Naomh Olaf 2 – 6 St Brigid’s 1 – 10 (aet)
Our Senior Football status was at stake in the last game of the League at Pairc Ui Bhriain on Sunday morning. St Brigid’s had not as yet won a game in the League but had won the Intermediate Championship last month. Naomh Olaf had a nervous first half and trailed by 0 – 2 to 1 – 3 at half time although the Olaf's defence was strong and frustrated many attacking moves by Brigid’s. A battling second half with three pointed frees plus a smashing goal from play by Eoin Kinsella tied the score at 1 – 5 each at full time. A fine point from play by John McGrath opened the first period of extra time but Brigid’s scored three points without reply to lead by 1 – 8 to 1 – 6 at the break. Immediately on the re-start Brigid’s added a point to lead by three but Olaf’s many attacks were rewarded with a fine goal by Darragh Maxwell and with the game now in injury time a draw seemed the likely result but play continued and Brigid’s scored the final and winning point of the game. The entire squad of players, their mentors and helpers can be rightly proud of their efforts during the year. Their commitment and dedication was immense and with the same spirit they will surely thrive in Division Three football and battle back to senior status next year.
