The U13 hurlers opened their division 3 campaign on March 12th when they played St. Kevin’s in Pairc Ui Bhriain. When these teams met in the U12 grade, Kevin’s always had the upper hand and the team along with managers Stephen Stapleton and Fiachra O’Ceallaigh were determined that they were going to put this right in the U13 grade and that’s what they did when they had a magnificent 9-4 to 4-3 win.
Eric Stapleton, who scored in every U12 hurling league game that he played in last year, kept his scoring streak going by scoring 3 goals. Glenn Soraghan matched Eric’s performance by also scoring 3 goals on the day. Eoin Foley contributed 2-4 and team captain Sean McDaid scored a goal.
The panel for the game was: Ben Thornton, Eric Stapleton (3-0), Tom McGurk, Eoin Foley (2-4), Rory Gallagher, Sean McDaid (1-0), Jamie Deasy, Glenn Soraghan (3-0), Fiachra O’Sullivan, Conor Brady, Jack Dalton, Matthew O’Ceallaigh, Cian Power Kelly, David Breathnach, Tristin Kennedy, Jordan O’Connor, Matthew Deering, Declan Murphy and Ryan Murphy.
In round 2 of the league, the U13 hurlers travelled to Portmarnock to take on Naomh Mearnog. It was a very tight tame throughout and the team found it hard to hit the target which in the end cost them the game when they lost by 7 points. Eric Stapleton hit the net again and both Eoin Foley and Sean McDaid scored 2-1 each. Olaf’s other score came from Conor Brady with an excellent point.
The panel for the game was: Ben Thornton, Eric Stapleton (1-0), Tom McGurk, Eoin Foley (2-1), Rory Gallagher, Sean McDaid (2-1), Jamie Deasy, Glenn Soraghan, Fiachra O’Sullivan, Conor Brady (0-1), Jack Dalton, Matthew O’Ceallaigh, Cian Power Kelly, Tristin Kennedy, Jordan O’Connor, Matthew Deering, Declan Murphy and Ryan Murphy.
Congratulations to Eoin Foley and Sean McDaid who have been selected for the Dublin U13 hurling development squad. This is a huge achievement for the lads and the club are very proud of them.
