Both U13 teams started the weekend seeking their first win in the division 2 and division 8 leagues. Team 2 turned in an exceptional performance to beat Ballyboden St. Enda’s while the first half performance of team 1 cost them dearly against St. Jude’s.
Team 2 entertained Ballyboden St. Enda’s in the second game of the league. In their last game some wayward shooting saw them lose that game by 3 points. In this game however they certainly brought their scoring boots with them and kicked only 4 wide’s in the whole game. The team started the game determined to put the last defeat behind them. Team captain Cian Power-Kelly won the ball from the throw-in and gave the ball to Jordan O’Connor. Jordan beat his man and gave a lovely pass to Adam O’Callaghan who in turn found Fiachra McLaughlin unmarked. Fiachra collected the ball and slotted it to the corner of the net and gave the ‘Boden keeper no chance to stop the shot. The team maintained that pressure for most of the first half and only conceded 1 point while they scored another 2-5 before the break. The goals came from Jordan O’Connor and another from Fiachra McLaughlin and the points came from Adam O’Callaghan, Rory Geoghegan, Cian Coughlan, Tristin Kennedy and 2 from Cian Power-Kelly. It was more of the same in the second half with Olaf’s taking control for most of the half. Boden managed to score 2-2 but Olaf’s scored an outstanding 5-6. The Olaf’s goals were scored by Cian Power-Kelly, Adam O’Callaghan, Fiachra McLoughlin (his third of the game) and 2 from Tristin Kennedy. The points came from Cian Power-Kelly, 2 from Fiachra McLoughlin and 3 from Ben Thornton. This was a fantastic team performance with every player doing all that was asked of him. Up next is a tough assignment when they travel to play O’Dwyers. The panel on duty was: Ben Thorntown (0-3), Ryan Murphy, Andrew Hayes, Gavin Soraghan, Cian McDaid, Cian Coughlan (0-1), Oscar Bent, Tristin Kennedy (2-1), Cian Power-Kelly (1-2), Jordan O’Connor (1-0), Adam O’Callaghan (1-1), Rory Geoghegan (0-1), Daniel Stapleton, Fiachra McLoughlin (3-2) and Eric Stapleton. Team 1 travelled to Tymon Park to play St. Jude’s in round 3 of the division 2 league. If somebody had said before the game that this team would score 8-9 one would assume that a win was assured. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case as the team lost by 8 points. The damage was done mid-way through the first half when Jude’s scored at will. The half-time score saw the team trailing by 17 points on a score line of 2-5 to 7-7. In the second half Olaf’s turned in a magnificent performance and scored 6-4 and only concede 2-7 to see them lose on a score-line of Olaf’s 8-9 St. Jude’s 9-14. In the next round of the league, the team plays St. Monica’s at home.
The panel duty was: Cian Power-Kelly, Tom McGurk, Conor Kirwan, Darragh Coleman, Fiachra O’Sullivan, Eoin Foley (2-0), Rory Gallagher, Sean McDaid (0-1), Jamie Deasy, Glenn Soraghan (0-2), Joseph Raferty (2-0), Tom Keane (1-2), Matthew O’Ceallaigh, Cian DeBurca (2-2), Conor Brady (1-2), Andrew Hayes and Tristin Kennedy.
