U14 Footballers - Feb 11 2012 Print E-mail
Written by Ger Kirwan

The U14 team 1 travelled north on the M50 to Pairc Ciceam where they played Ballymun Kickhams in round 2 of the Division 2 league.  Still hurting from the defeat to Naomh Barrog the previous week, the team were more determined than ever to make amends for that defeat.

Things did not start very well for them when Kickhams raced into a 2 point with just 4 minutes played.  Olaf’s were back level by the 10th minute with points from Eoin Foley and Joseph Rafferty.  Joseph followed up with a marvellous goal a few minutes later and this was the boost that the team needed. They moved up a few gears and at half time they led by 5-7 to 0-6 with scores coming from Tom Keane, Sean McDaid, Eoin Foley and Glenn Soraghan.

Like the first half, Kickhams started the second half with 2 points. Tom Keane scored a goal for Olaf’s on their next attack to steady the ship and the team moved on from here. The team put some lovely moves together which saw them score a total of 4-5 in the second half.  Kickhams managed to find the net with 2 minutes left to play but in the end Olaf’s ran out comfortable winners on a final score of 9-12 to 1-8.

This was a terrific team performance and has given the team a great boost in preparation for their next game against table toppers Kilmacud Crokes A.  If Olaf’s can repeat this performance, they will certainly give the Glenalbyn boys a run for their money.

The panel on Saturday was Jack Dalton, Rory Gallagher, Conor Kirwan, Tom McGuirk, Fiachra O’Sullivan, Eoin Foley, Cian DeBurca, Sean McDaid, Matthew Deering, Tom Keane, Joseph Rafferty, Sean Flynn, Cian Power Kelly, Glenn Soraghan, Matthew O’Kelly and Darragh Coleman.

The panel and mentors send their best wishes to Jamie Deasy who injured his knee during the week and will be out of action for a few weeks. Get well soon Jamie!

Team 2 had a bye this week and played a challenge against St. Pat’s Palmerstown instead.  A few late withdrawals saw the team field a very weakened side and they were beaten. Thanks to Pat’s for the game and we hope to return the favour in the near future (with a full team!). Next up for this team is a tough assignment away to Lucan B. Games between these teams over the years have been very close and I’m sure next weekend’s game will be no exception to this.
