Loving Cup SF -  Sunday 12 February 2012 Naomh Olaf Vs Lucan Sarsfields

The Naomh Olaf AFL Division 3 team got the 2012 season off to a winning start with a decisive victory over Lucan Sarsfields at Phairc Ui Bhriain on Sunday. The pitch conditions were good due to the recent dry spell on a overcast but pleasant day for a football game at Pairc Ui Bhriain.  

Olafs got off to a very good start when a long distance free on the right touch line was flighted beautifully over the bar by Darragh Byrne. This was quickly followed by a well taken point from play by Eoin Kinsella. Lucan then enjoyed a long dominant spell and led by three points to two as the half time whistle approached. However Fergal McCann managed to put one over just before the whistle, to leave the game drawn with 3 points each at half time.

The second half was nip and tuck for the first ten minutes with both teams only scoring one point each. Olafs then started to take control of the game.  Simon Hickey scored two nice points from play. Colm Kyne Delaney then added another point putting home side three points ahead as the game entered the final quarter. Olafs added four more points to Lucans one to finish a comfortable six points ahead. The final score was Naomh Olaf 0-11,  Lucan Sarsfields 0-5.

The scorers for Naomh Olaf were :  S Hickey 3 points, E Kinsella 3 points, B Begley 2 points, F McCann 1 point, D Byrne 1 point Colm Kyne Delaney 1 point.

Overall this was a excellent start to the Season for Naomh Olaf and a great confidence builder for this committed group of talented football players.
