The Adult Football season begins with three cup matches   20/02/2017

The competitive season for our adult footballers commenced with three Cup matches against local opposition on Sunday.

The Seniors, who seem to have had little down time since their December promotion success, took the Green Route to meet Ballinteer St. John's at 10:30 in the AIB Cup.   The Naomh Eoin team emerged victorious on a 2:18 to 2:7 victory.

12:00 saw the 1st Junior team face Kilmacud Crokes in Glenalbyn in the Murphy Cup.  A strong Naomh Olaf fifteen, fresh from a league and championship double in 2016, proved too strong for the home team on a 5:17 to 1:5 scoreline.  Top performers for Naomh Olaf were Rory Gallagher and Jack Dalton.

A 3:00 throw in against Geraldine Moran's in Cornelscourt was an important marker for Naomh Olaf football.  For the first time in some years the club will field three adult football teams in 2017 and the 2nd Junior team under mentors Seán Farrell, Alan Sanker, Darragh Byrne, Rob Doyle and Denis Kelleher was playing its first competitive match in Cup competition.  With many fresh faces on show the team started quietly but settled in the second half to record a 1:24 to 2:8 win.  Impressive for Naomh Olaf were Matthew O'Kelly, Chris Trainor and Oscar Bent (who had starred for the Minor hurlers before lunch).  Jamie O'Malley was also to the fore knocking over a string of points to keep the scoreboard ticking over throughout.  Great start by players and mentors.
