Latest Camogie News   20/02/2017

In relative terms camogie is the newest game available to Naomh Olaf members and it is great to see all the work being carried out by the committed camogie mentors being realised on the playing field.  Further realisation of their endeavours is the reward of seeing Naomh Olaf girls donning the Dublin jersey.

Clara O'Sullivan, who has the distinction of being a member of both the Dublin Minor Camogie and the Dublin Minor Ladies Football teams in 2017, took out the hurl at the weekend.  She headed south to play for Dublin against Cork in the first game of this year's All-Ireland Minor Camogie Championship.  Always a tough challenge, this game against Cork was no easier than expected and, despite an encouraging effort by the Dublin girls, the Rebels held sway with a 2:9 to 0:6 win.  Clara and her team mates now face Waterford in a must-win match in the next round.

The Dublin Premier Junior team, featuring Naomh Olaf's Chloe Ní Cheallaigh and Róisín McLoughlin, welcomed Roscommon to the Blanchardstown IT grounds last Saturday.  A good performance by Dublin resulted in a 2:10 to 1:5 victory with Chloe producing a fine display in goal.  The Dublin defence kept the Rossies scoreless in the second half thanks in no small measure to two great saves by Chloe.

In a nice touch, both Chloe and Róisín MacLoughlin were presented with a Littlewoods hamper by the Dublin Camogie Board to mark their being the first girls from Naomh Olaf to represent the capital on an adult Dublin camogie team.  Róisín did not play on Saturday but is looking forward to taking her chance when it comes her way. They travel to Tyrone this Sunday for round 2.

11 new referees are completing their camogie Go Games course/exam and will be hitting the Naomh Olaf pitches in the coming weeks.  Another 5 camogie referees will commence their course this week to move to the next stage after Go Games.

On the Ladies Football side 18 have signed up to do the Go Games refereeing course at various venues next weekend.

It is great to see the boys signing up to referee the girls codes but the girls would like to see the opposite being offered to the girls as well.
