A massive achievement for Dublin to win the Leinster Minor Hurling title in a classic encounter against Kilkenny on Saturday, 30 June and a huge honour for Naomh Olaf GAA Club to have three of its best lining out on the Dublin team.
Congratulations to long time Naomh Olaf mentor John Garvey, formerly of Dundrum / Churchtown GAA Club, who was a recipient of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Cathaoirleach's (Tom Murphy) Award in recognition of his work in support of the youth of the community through his GAA activities. The affable, hard-working and modest Mayo man sees this as recognition for all those whose volunteer work is so important, both in Naomh Olaf GAA Club and elsewhere.
The Supervalu sponsored naomh olaf Mini-All Irelands proved anaother rip roaring success with over 400 children aged 7 to 11 taking part in brilliant sunshine in Páirc Uí Bhriain.
The AIG sponsored I'm a Celebrity show which took place on Saturday night, 21 April in front of a packed house in the Naomh Olaf Sports Hall turned into a very enjoyable and successful night. Huge thanks is due to Barry Nestor and his team (Maeve Kearns, Sarah Kinsella, Seán Sullivan and Jenny Murray) for all their work and attention to detail in getting the show off the ground. Great to see Minister for Sport Shane Ross in attendance and John Gillick of sponsors AIG who was accompanied by his father, a staunch Ballinteer St. John's man.
A big thank you to Declan Murphy and Kevin Nolan (Aspect Interior Systems) and their associates in getting the new acoustic panels installed in the hall in time for the event. It made a big difference to the sound quality on the night and will stand to the club into the future for other events.
Well done to all of our sponsors who supported the event in any way - we are very grateful. And a particular thank you to the teams who backed their contestants and did the hard work of fundraising.
Well who is the Naomh Olaf Celebrity? Well, all the contestants did very well but, after the dust had settled, the winner was Vascilica Gavra Boland who represented the Under 11 Boys with Yseult Gallagher who represented the Camogie section a very close runner up.
