Sunday 21st February 2010 Hyde Park Dalkey
Naomh Olaf 2 – 10 Cuala 1 – 6
Cuala opened the scoring in the first minute with a well taken goal and for the first fifteen minutes were totally dominant but only added one point to their score. Olaf’s had four wides during this period. Eoin Kinsella scored a fine point from play and a point from a free and Cuala responded with two of their own. David Burke left the field injured and was replaced with John McGrath. Then as Eoin Kinsella was heading goal ward he was pulled down and he calmly dispatched the penalty awarded. Cuala pointed again and Eoin Kinsella (f) and Brian Begley pointed for Olaf’s leaving the half time score tied at 1 – 4 apiece.
David Lynch opened the second half with two fine points for Olaf’s and Eoin Kinsella added another. Conor Sobolewski was replaced by Eric Horgan. Following an attack by Cuala the ball was well played out of defence and Eoin Christian swept down the field to score a fine point to stretch Olaf’s lead to four points. Cuala had failed to score for a considerable length of time then scored twice without reply to leave a slim margin of two points between the teams. But David Lynch stretched the lead with a fine point and the game ended with a foot pass from Darragh Maxwell finding Eric Horgan on the edge of the square and he punched the ball to the net. This was a very good team performance particularly in the second half.
